Volvo Engine History

Volvo is a Swedish multinational company that is engaged in manufacturing of automobiles and many other services. It has its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. They are involved in distribution and sales of trucks, buses, construction equipments and financial services; however they are also suppliers of marines and industrial drive systems. Volvo was established in 1915, as the subsidiary of AB SKF, a ball bearing producing company. In 1927, they introduced the first Volvo car OV 4-series that is known as Jakob. Volvo means 'I roll' in Latin dictionary, in relation to ball bearings, in 1911, it was registered as a separate company within its parent company. It was registered to be used for the special series of ball bearings, however, after a short period SKF decided to use SKF as trademark for all its products and in 1924, company started its production of Swedish cars. Their car production vision was to meet up the standards of bad road conditions and cold temperatures. Until 1926, the company was just busy doing research and development and they produced ten prototypes the very next year. Volvo started manufacturing cars within the SKF business group. The company was introduced at Stockholm stock exchange in 1935 and it was the time when SKF sold its shares in the company. In 2007, Volvo was delisted from the NASDAQ but remain listed in Stockholm stock exchange. The Volvo Company sold its car division to the Ford Motor Company for $6.45 billion. The Volvo trademark was shared between AB Volvo, for heavy vehicles and for Ford units, passenger cars. Volvo is not posting their profit since 2005 and in 2008 Ford sold out its shares in the Volvo Cars and completed the process of selling in 2010. The main activity of the company is to own, maintain, preserve and protect the Volvo trademarks including the Volvo Penta on behalf of its owners. In routine they focus upon maintaining the global portfolio of the trademark. It also acts against the unauthorised registration and use of identical or similar marks or trademarks to the Volvo trademarks on the global basis.
